Can you schedule TikTok posts? Yes, here's how

Yes, you can schedule TikTok posts. TikTok's own scheduler on desktop web lets you pick a time from 15 minutes to 10 days ahead, and third-party schedulers can publish for you through TikTok's official API.

The two work differently, and each has limits you only notice when you hit them. I built Postminion, a scheduler that posts to TikTok, so I'll get to it at the end. The first half works without it.

How to schedule a TikTok with TikTok's own scheduler

TikTok's help center page on scheduling videos lists these steps:

1. Log in to your account on TikTok in a desktop web browser and click the Upload icon at the top of your feed.
2. Upload the video you want to schedule.
3. Edit it and write your caption. Then turn on the schedule toggle and pick a date and time.
4. Click Schedule.

When the post goes live, TikTok sends a push notification to your phone. The time zone comes from your computer's settings, so double-check it if you're travelling.

The limits of TikTok's native scheduler

The same help page lists the rules:

• 15 minutes to 10 days ahead. If you batch a month of videos in one weekend, you'll be back every week to schedule the next lot.
• You can't edit a scheduled post. You can delete it, but not change it. TikTok's business blog says to delete and re-upload if you need to fix a caption or move the time.
• Desktop web only. TikTok says the scheduler isn't available on TikTok's mobile website.
• Not every account gets it. The help page says it's for a "Business Account or over with a 10,000 followers or more". That wording is ambiguous, and TikTok's business blog only says you need a Business Account. If you don't see the schedule toggle, your account type is the first thing to check.

Can you schedule TikTok posts from the mobile app?

Not officially. TikTok's help center only publishes the desktop web steps above, and says the feature isn't on mobile web.

Some people report seeing a schedule option in the app. I couldn't find it in TikTok's own documentation, so I won't promise it. If your app doesn't show one, use a computer or a third-party scheduler.

How third-party schedulers post to TikTok

Scheduling tools, including Postminion, publish through TikTok's Content Posting API. The option that posts straight to your profile is called Direct Post. Two things about it explain most of what you'll see in these tools.

The API has no schedule field. TikTok's API reference lists the post settings a tool can send (privacy, comments, Duets, Stitches, cover frame, disclosure), and a publish time isn't one of them. So a scheduler holds your video and sends it to TikTok at the time you picked, which is also why TikTok's 10-day limit doesn't apply.

TikTok tells tools exactly what to show you. TikTok's content sharing guidelines set rules for any app that uses Direct Post. Among them:

• Show which TikTok account the post is going to.
• Make you choose a privacy level yourself, with no default.
• Show comment, Duet, and Stitch toggles, all switched off to start. If you've turned one off in your TikTok settings, it has to appear greyed out.
• Offer a content disclosure setting with two options, "Your Brand" and "Branded Content". Branded content can't be set to private.
• Show a declaration before you post: that you agree to TikTok's Music Usage Confirmation, plus its Branded Content Policy if the post is branded.
• Keep the video within the maximum length TikTok allows your account.
• Never add the tool's own watermark or logo.

So if a scheduler asks you five questions before it posts a TikTok, it isn't being difficult. TikTok requires it.

The same page also says apps that haven't passed TikTok's audit can only post privately. If a tool can only publish your TikToks as "Only me", that's probably why.

How to schedule TikTok posts with Postminion

Postminion uses Direct Post and connects through TikTok's official login, so it never asks for your password.

1. Connect your TikTok account.
2. Upload one video, or up to 35 photos for a photo post.
3. Write your caption.
4. Pick the privacy level. You only see the options TikTok allows for your account.
5. Choose whether to allow comments, Duets, and Stitches.
6. Turn on content disclosure if the post promotes a brand, and add TikTok's AI-generated content label if it applies.
7. For a video, choose the cover frame.
8. Tick the consent box for TikTok's Music Usage Confirmation (and Branded Content Policy, if needed).
9. Pick a date, a time, and a time zone, then schedule it.

Each post has its own time zone, so you can hit your audience's morning in another country without doing maths in your head. There's no 10-day cap, and you can edit or delete a scheduled post before it goes out.

The reason I built Postminion was cross-posting. I was spending an hour a day re-uploading the same video to five different apps. What Postminion can't do on TikTok

Some of this is TikTok's API, and some of it is me.

• No sounds from TikTok's library. The API has no field for picking a sound, so trending sounds are out. Any audio has to be in your video file already. For photo posts, you can let TikTok auto-add recommended music.
• No in-app editing. Text overlays, stickers, effects, and filters happen in TikTok, not through the API. Bake them into the video before you upload.
• Shorter videos than TikTok allows. Postminion takes one video per post, up to 3 minutes and 500 MB. TikTok itself allows longer videos. My post on TikTok video length and size limits has the details.
• No analytics yet. That's coming soon. For now, check views in TikTok.
• No mobile app. Postminion runs in your browser.

If you only post to TikTok, rarely more than a week ahead, and you use trending sounds a lot, TikTok's own scheduler is free and may be all you need.

How far in advance can you schedule a TikTok?

Up to 10 days with TikTok's own scheduler, and at least 15 minutes ahead. Third-party schedulers that use TikTok's API don't have that limit, because they send the post to TikTok at the time you picked.

Can you edit a scheduled TikTok?

Not in TikTok's native scheduler. You can delete the scheduled post and upload it again with your changes. In Postminion, you can edit or delete a scheduled post before it publishes.

Do you need a business account to schedule TikTok posts?

For TikTok's own desktop scheduler, TikTok's help pages say you need a Business Account (one page also mentions 10,000 followers). Third-party schedulers connect through TikTok's API instead, and TikTok decides which privacy options your account gets.

Can you use trending sounds in a scheduled TikTok?

Not through a third-party scheduler. TikTok's Content Posting API has no way to pick a sound from TikTok's library, so the audio must already be in your video. If a trending sound matters for a particular video, post that one from TikTok itself.

Can you schedule TikTok photo posts?

Yes. TikTok's API accepts photo posts with up to 35 images, and Postminion supports them, including the option to let TikTok add recommended music.
