Postminion vs Buffer: an honest comparison for 2026

I built Postminion, so read this with the right amount of salt.

But before I built it, I was the person searching "Buffer alternative" late at night. I know what you want from a page like this: the prices, what each tool can and can't post, and a straight answer.

So here's the straight answer first.

The short version

Pick Buffer if you want a free plan, analytics, a comments inbox, or approvals for a team. Also pick Buffer if you post to X, Pinterest, Bluesky, or a LinkedIn company page. Buffer has been around since 2010, and it does a lot more than Postminion.

Pick Postminion if you publish the same short-form content to Instagram, TikTok, YouTube Shorts, Threads, Facebook, and your personal LinkedIn, and you'd rather pay one flat price than a price per account. Once you have more than one account, Postminion costs less than any paid Buffer plan.

Everything below is the detail behind those two paragraphs. I checked every number on September 28, 2026, against Buffer's pricing page, Buffer's help center, and Postminion's pricing. Prices change, so check both pages before you pay for anything.

Pricing: per account vs flat

This is the biggest difference, so let's start here.

Buffer charges per channel. A channel is one social account: one Instagram profile, one Facebook Page, one TikTok. Five brands with an Instagram and a Facebook Page each is 10 channels.

Postminion charges one flat monthly price for a set number of connected accounts. Every plan gets every feature. The only differences are how many accounts you can connect and how fast support answers.

Here's what that looks like for real account counts. I'm comparing against Buffer Essentials because it's the closest match: Postminion is also one user per account today.

The 15-account Buffer figure is my own maths from their published rates: $6 each for channels 1 to 10, then $4 each for channels 11 to 25. The other Buffer figures are straight from their pricing page.

Two things work in Buffer's favour here.

First, Buffer has a free plan and Postminion doesn't. Buffer Free is a real plan, not a demo. If you post a few times a week to three accounts, it might be all you ever need. I'd rather tell you that than take $8 a month from you for nothing.

Second, Buffer's yearly discount is bigger. Buffer says yearly billing saves about two months. Postminion's yearly price is 11 months for the price of 12.

Trials are different too. Buffer gives paid plans a 14-day free trial and moves you to the Free plan if you don't add payment details. Postminion has a 7-day free trial: $0 today, and no charge if you cancel within 7 days.

Platforms and formats

Buffer supports more networks. That's not close.

"Reminders" is Buffer's notification publishing. Buffer sends a push notification to your phone, and you finish the post in the app yourself. It's useful for things the platforms' APIs don't allow, like Instagram music and stickers.

One more limit on my side: Postminion is built for short-form video. It takes one video per post, up to 3 minutes and 500 MB. Buffer accepts longer files on some networks, like Instagram Reels up to 15 minutes and TikTok videos up to 10 minutes. If you post long videos, that matters.

Where Buffer is ahead

This list is long, and I'm not going to pretend it isn't.

• Analytics. Buffer shows follower growth, engagement, impressions, and post performance: 30 days of history on Free, unlimited on paid plans. Postminion doesn't have analytics yet. It's coming soon, but today you can see what was published, not how it performed.
• Comments inbox. Buffer lets you reply to comments from 10 networks in one place. Postminion doesn't handle comments at all.
• Teams. Buffer Team has unlimited users, approval workflows, and access levels. Postminion is one user per account.
• Extras around posting. Buffer has first comment scheduling (paid plans), a hashtag manager, an ideas board, a link-in-bio page called Start Page, an AI writing assistant, a browser extension, and iOS and Android apps. Postminion has none of those today.
• Track record. Buffer started in 2010, and it's famous for publishing its salaries and company numbers. Postminion is new and small. If a long history matters to you, that's a fair reason to choose Buffer.

Where Postminion is ahead

Shorter list. On purpose.

• Price once you have a few accounts. See the tables above. At 50 accounts, it's $50 a month versus $195.
• Nothing locked behind a higher tier. Every Postminion plan has the same features. You never upgrade just to unlock one button.
• Less to learn. Postminion does fewer things. When I started building it, my complaint about existing schedulers was simple: they either cost too much or had too many features I never used. If you need analytics and an inbox, "fewer features" is just a downside. If you just want to upload once and post everywhere, it's the whole point.

The rest is closer to a tie than you'd think.

Both let you edit the caption for each account before a post goes out. Both publish directly through each platform's official API, and neither asks for your social media passwords.

Both also work with AI assistants now. Postminion connects to Claude, ChatGPT, or any client that supports MCP (Model Context Protocol, the standard AI assistants use to connect to other apps). You choose what the assistant is allowed to do and can revoke access anytime. Buffer released a public API in May 2026, with connections for Claude, ChatGPT, and Perplexity. If this is why you're shopping, try both.

So which one should you use?

Use Buffer if:

• You want to pay nothing, and 3 accounts with 10 queued posts each is enough.
• You need analytics right now, or comment replies, or team approvals.
• You post to X, Pinterest, Bluesky, Mastodon, Google Business Profile, or a LinkedIn company page.
• You publish videos longer than 3 minutes.

Use Postminion if:

• You post the same content to Instagram, TikTok, YouTube Shorts, Threads, Facebook, and personal LinkedIn.
• You manage several accounts or brands and per-account pricing is adding up.
• You want a scheduler, not a marketing suite.

If you read all of this and Buffer sounds like the better fit, go use Buffer. Seriously. It's a good product.

Is Postminion cheaper than Buffer?

On paid plans, yes, once you have two or more accounts. Postminion Starter is $8 a month for up to 8 accounts. Buffer Essentials is $6 a month per account, so two accounts cost $12. Buffer Free costs nothing for up to 3 accounts, with a limit of 10 scheduled posts per account at a time.

Does Postminion have a free plan?
